This post came about out of sheer curiosity. I had no plans to make my own soccer goal (and chances are you don’t either…) Well, maybe you actually do. But you might change your mind after watching this first video and just settle with buying a pop-up goal instead!

None the less, during my browsing, I stumbled across some tutorials and one of those was on how to make a soccer goal. I found them quite fascinating as some were really simple and others pretty much made those huge, solid 24ft goals you see on the field!

So if you do actually want to make a soccer goal, you will be glad to know there are many options, methods and materials you can use to do it.

  • Metal
  • PVC
  • Wood

First I am going to show you the most intriguing one I came across which was a father and son replacing their old wooden frame goal. The idea was that his son was tired of the ball flying through the post and off into the abyss – as it meant he had to keep going and getting it. His father knew it was time for an upgrade… one with a net. So they gathered some recycled materials and got to work.

Awesome right!?

But if you do not have years of welding experience, an old flag pole or a shed full of power tools just scroll down a little bit and check out how you could make a soccer goal out of PVC.

Unlike flagpoles, PVC is widely available in most large DIY warehouse stores. You can even order some online with the measurements you desire and have that delivered to you. This easy accessibility makes PVC the most common go-to resource for DIY soccer goal making. It is also affordable and very durable.

How To Build A Soccer Goal With PVC Pipe

Level: Intermediate

In this video we learn how to build a soccer goal with PVC Pipe, and for less than $150

This next video is a more entry level way to make a PVC goal. It shows you how to make a portable soccer goal or a goal for kids, and can be made in under 60 minutes for under $30!

This would be ideal if all of the goals you have been seeing online are still out of your budget and it makes more sense to build your own. Or maybe you just want to do a fun DIY project with your children.

What you will need:

  • PVC Pipe (The length will depend on how wide and tall you want your goal)
  • 4 x 45 Degree PVC Connectors
  • 8 x PVC Elbows
  • 4 x PVC “T’s”
  • PVC Cement/Glue
  • Nylon Net
  • Coping Saw (or another tool to cut PVC)

* There are some extras you might need if you don’t have any lying around the house, such as sand, to fill the bottom pipes which will stop them from blowing away for toppling over.

How To Make A Soccer Goal Out Of Wood

A solid and durable soccer goal can also be made out of treated wood! In the video below they managed to make their wooden goal for under $20 using materials you can pick up from your local home depot type store.

He used wooden planks of the following sizes:

  • 2x 8ft 2by4 Wooden Planks
  • 1 x 10ft 2by6 Wooden Plank

However he also had access to his father’s DIY shed which was brimming with power tools… so keep that in mind! None the less, it is an awesome video which shows you a different way to construct a solid goal for use outdoors and with cheap materials.
